DOWNTOWN LA FASHION WALK
This monthly event includes 30 boutiques, clothing stores, and fashion-related businesses on Downtown’s Gallery Row create a daily Fashion Walk with one of the widest ranging selections of style in Los Angeles. There will also be exhibitions, photo shoots, pop-up stores, and performance art as the sidewalks of Main, Spring, and Broadway become full of Angelino fashionistas! Catch this 1987 Brian De Palma classic written by screenwriter David Mamet. They explored 1960s television and American crime history into the stuff of glorious cinematic mythology in this literate, visually arresting gangster epic. Starring Kevin Costner as the treasury agent Eliot Ness, Robert De Niro as his nemesis Al Capone, and Sean Connery as the grizzled cop who does things the Chicago way. The post-screening discussion with Mamet should be interesting as he’s rarely without words.

AN EVENING WITH DIRECTOR F. GARY GRAY
Presented by USC’s African American Film Society and moderated by Greg Braxton of the L.A. Times. F. Gary Gray will stop by to screen the documentary “Doing the Impossible: The F. Gary Gray Story.” This hour-long documentary offers insight into Gary’s start in the business, approach as a filmmaker and his journey from the streets of South Central to the bright lights of Hollywood. This documentary is part of the newly released Shooter Series: Volume Two. They will screen a handful of music videos from his career prior to the start of the documentary. Since 1995, F. Gary Gray has been consistently delivering an array of films and music videos to the mainstream. Gray has released a growing list of successful films including Friday, Set if Off, A Man Apart, The Italian Job, The Negotiator, Be Cool and most recently Law Abiding Citizen. He is also known for his music video direction for artists Jay-Z, Whitney Houston, Ice Cube, Mary J. Blige and Outkast.

“LANGSTON & NICOLAS” NEW PLAY
Written by Bernardo Solano and directed by Nancy Cheryll Davis, this play explores the music, poetry and dance that shaped the great friendship between Harlem poet Langston Hughes and Cuban Poet Laureate Nicolas Guillen. It was a very creative historical piece with amazing art direction and awesome performances. The discounted previews are over but this show is quite worth the full price.

EARTH DAY ON THE SANTA MONICA PROMENADE
In celebration of this 40th anniversary of Earth Day, this family oriented Eco-Fest will feature over 60 diverse eco-exhibits, activities, food vendoes, live music, animals and fun. There will be a Free to Be Me Drum Circle; Stuart Wilde’s trekking llamas, Star Eco-Station’s wild animals; and California Science Center’s new ecosystems exhibit. Kids will have a chance to bang a drum, pet a llama, adopt a shark, and learn about composting by getting up close and touching the worms! Plus visit & take their photo with “Nate the Walking Earth”. A “Sustainable Transport Village” will include displays of high mileage & alternative energy vehicles including Toyota and Ford Hybrids, hydrogen fuel cell, and electric powered cars. Attendees are encouraged to walk, bike, or take the Big Blue Bus, Tide Shuttle, or Metro to the event in order to help sustain the environment and limit global warming pollution.

HOWARD ZINN TRIBUTE
Howard Zinn gave us so much with his amazing book, “The People’s History of the United States” and his passing is a huge loss to progressive movements. There is a screening of an edited version of “You Can’t Be Neutral On A Moving Train”, which is a documentary about Zinn. This tribute includes Theresa & Blase Bonpane, Ry Cooder, Sonali Kolhatkar, Tom Hayden, KB Solomon, Jim Lafferty, Ross Altman, Hector Aristizabal, Margaret Prescod, Frank Dorrel, Wil B, Tom English, Marco Rambaldo, Larry Dilg and Mauro Sacchi.
