YOUNG CURATORS SERIES: ART AS RESISTANCE
Art As Resistance, curated by Brenzy Solorzano will be an art exhibition created to reclaim and celebrate our Chican@ culture through art. In the middle of all the gentrification going on in our communities, it is urgent that we stake our culture, subcultures, and spaces! By creating a safe and brave space to celebrate one another’s talent, we are drawing the line; we are resisting in solidarity against anyone that wants to put a label on something that is and has always been ours, nuestra cultura.
In this event you will find: Visual art, poetry, live music, dance performances, and of course, your local vendors! So bring ya coins and support that local hustle!
This is an event by the community for the community! Bring all your friends and family!
The YOUNG CURATORS program offers youth the opportunity to curate exhibitions and events while providing guidance, support, and resources to present works in traditional and non-traditional gallery formats.
Brenzy Solorzano encourages you all to support your local artists! Check out the one of a kind art & various performances that our young artists offer.

TAG GALLERY & HOMEBOY INDUSTRIES PRESENT: SPIRITUAL LANGUAGE OPENING
TAG Gallery announced today that it will collaborate with Homeboy Industries to present Spiritual Language, a group exhibition featuring artwork by 40 different artists, including special guests Fabian Debora, Alex Kizu, and Juan Carlos Munoz Hernandez.
Working in a variety of media, with a goal to speak to viewers from all walks of life, Spiritual Language is the physical translation of struggle, growth, hope, and healing, through artistic expression. Speaking directly to the core of what makes us human, this “language” is an intangible force that pushes past the boundaries of race, social class, cultural barriers, religion, and age. CROSSING THE STREAMS/NEW WORKS BY NEUTRA EXHIBIT OPENING
2015 was a year filled with big changes for me. Shortly after making the tough decision to move back to the town we grew up in after 15 years away, my wife and I discovered that we would also be having our first child.
So, when asking myself what I would like to express in my fourth show at C.A.V.E. Gallery, naturally the new perspectives that fatherhood and a change of environment can bring came to mind. But once I started to work, I realized that there is an interesting elastic pull of my old self at play with the inevitable transformation that I am going through.
Yes, dramatic shifts are afoot, but I can tell that I am still straddling both the old and the new. Fifteen years in LA has its lasting effects, and it is easy to feel these effects against the contrast of our new experiences. The wide open spaces and stillness of the desert of New Mexico bring into focus the energy and vibrancy of Los Angeles, and the sudden responsibility for the wellbeing of another human life certainly makes things interesting for someone who has thus far lived a life of fierce independence.

NOHO FARMERS MARKET
The NoHo Arts District Farmers Market is a festive, family-friendly, open-air marketplace committed to bringing fresh, locally grown food to the surrounding neighborhood. Enjoy a variety of fruits and vegetables from California farmers, as well as other foods including breads, nuts, ethnic foods, cheeses, fruit juices, and cookies. You’ll also find clothing, crafts, and children’s activities, plus much more. Conveniently located just steps away from the North Hollywood Metro stop on the Red Line. This open-air street market has approximately 20 farmers, 20 local artisans, and 30 vendors who provide baked goods and prepared foods. I find my favorite organic apples and organic dinosaur kale weekly… Also, enjoy lots of samples. There are great deals to be made with farmers who come from as far as Sacramento.

TOM KRUMPAK’S EXHIBIT
Lora Schlesinger Gallery is pleased to announce Tom Krumpak’s first solo exhibition with the gallery. The exhibition opens with the artist’s reception on Saturday, December 12, from 5-7 pm and is on view through January 23, 2016. Krumpak’s meticulous abstract paintings are an exploration of color and shape, methodically arranged to produce potent color field abstractions that pack a visual punch.
The exhibition titled in Haiku form, Bamboo tall, blue sky, a painted abstract picture, inside wooden room is comprised of a body of work, inspired by the relationship between Mid-20th-Century Modern architectural design and traditional Japanese Shoji screened dwellings found in the United States and Japan. Built in a similar style, the artist considers his studio to be an “artistic pictorial construction site” providing the necessary visual elements that formulate and inform his work. Krumpak makes tracings of random patterns found on paint palettes, marks and splashes left on work tables or on his own clothing, momentary stacks of paint cans and books, piles of sea shells or collected rocks, scattered architectural renderings, historical photos and drawings of the surrounding landscape. He intermixes them with bits of personal history such as text, poetry, music lyrics and anything that captures place, the past and the present. The result is a body of work that is an obsessive exploration of place and being, time and space.
Tom Krumpak has exhibited internationally since 1976. He earned a Master of Fine Arts Degree from California State University Long Beach and a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from the San Francisco Art institute. He has been a professor of drawing and painting at California State University Long Beach since 1983.
