OCCASIONAL PASADENA DOO DAH PARADE
The Occasional Pasadena Doo Dah Parade will celebrate 39 years of irreverent frolicking on the streets of Pasadena. On Doo Dah day, dozens of inventive, if zany, art cars and floats will accompany a legion of revelers past the mom-n-pop shops along East Pasadena’s shady tree-lined streets with a memorable cast of local eccentrics, disruptors, pundits, mutant art cars, lone wolves, steam punks, makers and merrymakers. Yes, another Doo Dah is here to help you forget your humdrum existence!
Known as the twisted sister of the conventional Rose Parade, the Occasional Pasadena Doo Dah Parade began as a grassroots event in 1978 to gain national attention for its eccentric and, often, irreverent satire. The parade which has spawned numerous off-beat replicants across the country was even highlighted in last year’s Wall Street Journal. It was also named by Readers Digest as “America’s Best Parade,” and was recently featured in the book 50 Places You Must Visit Before You Die. To recount the fascinating and confusing history of Pasadena Doo Dah Parade since 1978, please visit our website’s ARCHIVES page. Anyone wishing to participate visit our website or call!

LEONARD COHEN SINGALONG
Friends. Strangers. Last week America died and then Leonard Cohen died. It feels wrong to act normal. It feels weird to celebrate anything, let alone the life of a person whose art had something to tell us about this moment, even as he himself seemed too gentle a soul to belong to it.
But: let’s get together, sing a few songs that warn us about what may be to come, a few songs that make us think about the people we’ve loved, sing a couple Hallelujahs to remind us that while our place in the drama is small, our part in it is kind of everything.
Please join this SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 20th at the Lady of the Lake statue on the northern end of ECHO PARK LAKE to sing some of Cohen’s best-loved songs. They should be pretty easy to find — they’ll be the ones with guitars and accordions.
They’ll provide songbooks with lyrics, you provide your voice! If you’d like to play along on whatever acoustic instrument you have lying around, let us know so we can bring some extra songbooks with chords. And — most importantly — if you’re shy to sing in public, don’t worry, because there’ll be a bunch singing along with you! The more the merrier — please invite whoever you’d like.
You can find a Spotify playlist here: https://open.spotify.com/user/mattstromberg/playlist/1OMg6iB59uq0toosldzRBX. And if you have any questions, just drop a line to publicspacesingalong@gmail.com.
