Writer-Producer-Director LAALA MATIAS has a BFA in Film & Television from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, where she received the Warner Bros. Post Production Award for the completion of her thesis film. Two of her NYU films screened at the Kennedy Center/Smithsonian Institution and at festivals internationally.
Laala’s Art Dept, Locations & Production credits include Law & Order: SVU, Big Brother, Saturday Night Live, HBO, Hype Williams’ music videos and Spike Lee’s commercials. She loves documentaries and wrote coverage of documentary submissions at the HBO Original Programming, Documentaries department for executive review. Laala was also the Independent Television Service (ITVS) New York Community Connections Representative where she facilitated PBS documentary screenings with the goal of audience and word of mouth outreach in target communities.
Becoming a Disney*ABC Television Writing Fellow focused on her creative abilities and qualified her for Writer’s Guild of America membership. Laala also wrote and produced a one-act play for the NYU New Writers Showcase at the Friars of Beverly Hills.
She was recently featured on the Style Network show “Dress My Nest” because of her love of the color orange. Besides her NYU Tisch training, Laala’s honed her craft at UCLA and the Institute of American Indian Arts. She loves developing projects and her specialty is developing crowdfunding and social media management strategies with other creatives.
Laala publishes the LAaLALand Alert!! list of eclectic local events weekly. Her curated events blog reaches thousands of locals which include many people in the entertainment industry. The site evolved after Laala’s experience writing print and online feature magazine articles about politics in the music (Hip Hop, R&B) and film industries and because she wanted to know more about the city of Angels. Laala is a respected tastemaker who has spoken on numerous panels about topics ranging from entertainment, beauty, sociology and cultural linguistics. Many readers appreciate her curated posts and plan their weekends around her suggestions.
