DIGITAL HOLLYWOOD CONFERENCE mini-RECAP
I’ve been at the Digital Hollywood conference all week and am really impressed. Opportunities are abound. On Wednesday night, the International Fund for Animal Welfare held the Dinner for Social Change and discussed their save the elephants/ban the ivory trade campaign. Check out their initiatives. Today is the last day of this annual event and along with their Variety Summit on Monday, this totally packed schedule has been totally worth it. They also hold events in New York and London.

San Pedro is one of my favorite parts of LA. This South Bay oasis is reminiscent of San Francisco. This event is a great way to check out this unique town. Art galleries and studios all over old Downtown San Pedro will be open. Enjoy a free hour-long docent led artwalk tour of the town’s diverse art selections. Wish I could make it!

SPRING FESTIVAL OF WORLD MUSIC & JAZZ FEATURING MUSIC FROM BRAZIL AND THE BALKANS
Co-sponsored by the Department of Ethnomusicology, this lively outdoor series features international rhythms, sound, and dance is performed by UCLA students and faculty. At 2pm, Music of the Balkans Ensemble, Ivan and Tzvetanka Varimezov, co-directors Focusing on traditional Bulgarian songs and music, the Music of the Balkans Ensemble also includes the Balkan Band and a womens choir that performs a capella arrangements of folk songs in two- and three-part harmony. Later at 3:30pm, Music of Brazil Ensemble, Kirk Brundage, director The Music of Brazil Ensemble repertoire incorporates the various styles, including samba batucada in the tradition of Rio de Janeiros samba schools, samba reggae and samba Afro of the blocos-Afros of Salvador da Bahia, and the maracatu of Recife, Pernambuco, among others. FILMMAKER SPOTLIGHT: ADAM SCHLACHTER
Schlachter hails from Puerto Rico & Miami, and is Los Angeles based. He attended AFI, UCLA & FSU. He’s developed a body of work that ranges from scripts to shorts and a feature film. Adam is currently in preproduction on a period film, “The Bridge”, while participating in the CBS Directing Initiative and the NBC-Universal Writers Showcase. His AFI thesis film, “My Backyard Was A Mountain”, qualified and was shortlisted for the Academy Awards for Best Live Action Short, screened at over one hundred and fifty international film festivals, received thirty Grand Prizes, and won prestigious awards from Kodak and Panavision. This is the trailer for his upcoming feature film “Hollywood Whores”. It’s about struggling artists in Los Angeles who compromise their identities and souls in search of their dreams and passions.
