10,000 MANIACS AT PERSHING SQUARE
One of the most critically acclaimed bands of the last three decades, 10,000 Maniacs, began in 1981 and defined college rock creating the first wave of alternative rock bands and what became known as the alternative rock format on FM radio. Writing and performing powerful, danceable, and socially conscious original material in and around their hometown of Jamestown, New York, the group toured extensively and produced two independently released records, Human Conflict Number Five (‘82) and Secrets of the I Ching (‘83) on their own Christian Burial Music label. By producing, manufacturing, and marketing their own recordings, 10,000 Maniacs were the original “indie” band before signing with Elektra Records and making The Wishing Chair in 1985. Catch them live at Pershing Square.

GABOR-I-VISION EXHIBIT AT THE PALEY CENTER
Zsa Zsa and Eva Gabor conquered all facets of show business over the course of more than five decades at the pinnacle of glamorous popular entertainment. Each found acclaim on Broadway (Eva in The Happy Time and Zsa Zsa in 40 Carats), starred in classic motion pictures including Gigi and Moulin Rouge, and beginning in the 1950s, became a near constant presence on television. Though they were doing consistently notable work in a variety of media, their headline grabbing personal lives tended to eclipse their performing careers. Happily, much of the sisters’ frequent and fun work on TV—from the Texaco Star Theater and the Steve Allen and Jack Paar shows to Green Acres, The Late Show with David Letterman, and beyond—is archived in the Paley Center’s collection. Catch these Hungarian bombshells’ dramatic, talk show, and variety appearances.

The exhibition will feature paintings, mixed media sculptures, and interactive installations by 50 of the most dynamic artists and will emphasize Los Angeles’s role in the evolution of graffiti and street art, with special sections dedicated to seminal local movements such as cholo graffiti and Dogtown skateboard culture. A REVOLUTIONARY PROJECT: CUBA FROM WALKER EVANS TO NOW
Cuba’s attempt to forge an independent state has been a project under development for more than 100 years and a source of fascination for nations, intellectuals, and artists alike. A Revolutionary Project: Cuba from Walker Evans to Now looks at three critical periods in the nation’s history as witnessed by photographers before, during, and after the country’s 1959 Revolution. The exhibition juxtaposes Walker Evans’s 1933 images from the end of the Machado dictatorship with views by contemporary foreign photographers Virginia Beahan, Alex Harris, and Alexey Titarenko, who have explored Cuba since the withdrawal of Soviet support in the 1990s. A third section bridging these two eras presents pictures by Cuban photographers who participated in the 1959 Revolution, including Alberto Korda, Perfecto Romero, and Osvaldo Salas.
