OLD PASADENA HALLOWEEN CELEBRATION
Bring the whole family to Old Pasadena for a frightfully good time with free Halloween fun, as well as Day of the Dead festivities. On Saturday, October 24, visit One Colorado to decorate your own jack-o-lantern, and on Sunday, October 25, be sure to bring your primped pup and join the doggy costume parade. Then, for the main event, on Saturday, October 31, put on your Halloween costume and trick-or-treat at more than 100 participating businesses in Old Pasadena. Kids will meet and greet their favorite movie characters along Colorado Boulevard. In One Colorado’s courtyard, families can commemorate the evening with a free “haunted” photo, and end the evening watching a classic stop-animation monster romp on the outdoor screen!
This is the first year that we celebrate Day of the Dead in Old Pasadena. We’ve asked local businesses and artists to come together and create altars for visitors to tour starting Friday, October 30, and continuing through Sunday, November 1. Stop by Mercantile Place for our Day of the Dead Fiesta from 1:00-4:00pm on Sunday, November 1, including free activities and giveaways. The Armory Center for the Arts and Color Me Mine Pasadena are offering kids crafts, in addition to Day of the Dead face painting, a traditional altar installation, and free paletas (popsicles) to the first 200 guests. Los Angeles’ Maitre Écailler (Shellfish Master) and owner of The Oyster Gourmet, Christophe Happillon, is ready to prove that “oysters are the new sushi” at The DTLA Oyster Festival on October 24 and 25. This special culinary pop-up will bring together oyster farmers from across the country for a celebration of all-things-oyster at Grand Central Market.
The two-day affair will be an opportunity for Market visitors to taste their way through oyster varieties hailing from various parts of the country, or what Happillon calls “merroir” (a play on the French word “terroir” used by winemakers to describe “a sense of place”). Visitors will have the chance to buy $2 oysters directly from these participating farms:
-Hama Hama from Washington State: the oldest oyster farm on the West Coast (active
since 1922)
-Sol Azul Seafarms based in Baja California: in operation within the El Vizcaino
Biosphere Reserve (a UNESCO World Heritage Site)
-Grassy Bar Oysters from Morro Bay, Central California (active since 2009)
-Morro Bay Oyster Company “Pacific Gold” oysters from young, media-savvy startup
oyster farmer Neal Maloney
-Rock Harbor Oysters from a small family farm in Cape Cod, Massachusetts
The weekend will also include a series of free, hands-on Oyster Shucking 101 workshops led by Happillon, who will personally teach 10 people at a time how to shuck and serve oysters on the half-shell. In addition, informal conversations with Happillon, the guest farmers and Norman Abell (Acacia Pacific Aquaculture) over the course of the weekend will cover topics such as “merroir,” sustainability of oyster aquaculture and proper oyster selection and handling
The Oyster Gourmet will be selling an assortment of French wines to accompany the oysters, as well as its regular menu offerings throughout the weekend.
The event does not have an entry fee, but if you wish to participate in the shucking workshops you must register online beforehand.

Well, if they’re having an 80% off sale that voucher comes out to only $2! Spend $2 and get $25 off of your $35 check.
