ZUVAA POP UP TOUR
The Zuvaa Marketplace is hosting a one-of-a-kind Pop-Up Shop at the Fowler Museum at UCLA to celebrate the opening of their new exhibition African-Print Fashion Now! A Story of Taste, Globalization, and Style.
The exhibition tells the global stories of African-print textiles—the early history of the print cloth trade in West and Central Africa, the expansion of production following independence movements, and the increasing popularity of Asian-made print cloth today. Popular African styles from Ghana, Nigeria, Côte d’Ivoire, Cameroon, and Senegal are featured, as well as groundbreaking runway fashions by some of Africa’s most talented couturiers: Ituen Bassey, Gilles Touré, and Titi Ademola, among others. Black-and- white studio portraits illuminate print fashions of the 1960s and 1970s, while works by contemporary artists incorporate African print to convey evocative messages about heritage, hybridity, displacement, and aspiration.
Zuvaa is honored to be a part of opening weekend festivities and has curated a marketplace of designers whose clothing and accessories reflect the aesthetics of African-Print Fashion Now!
Join for this three two-day event as Zuvaa sets up shop inside the Museum with clothing and accessories from vendors such as Rahyma, Ofuure, Simply Cecily, Onyii and Co., and Royal House of Wraps.
Friday, March 24th from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Sunday, March 26th from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.
All are welcome to attend the opening of the Fowler exhibition, African-Print Fashion Now! on Saturday, March 25, 7–9pm. For a full schedule of events please visit here: http://www.fowler.ucla.edu/events/opening-party-for-african-print-fashion-now-a-story-of-taste-globalization-and-style/

ROMANTIC COMEDIES: THESE FILMS CAN SAVE YOUR LOVE LIFE
Unlike film guides that list films alphabetically, give production facts and often rather dry descriptions, this book is designed to help people better understand themselves, their loved ones, and their romantic situations…or lack thereof.
Scientific studies show that couples who watch romantic movies together and then discuss them and their feelings about them have a much better stay-together rate than similar couples who enter traditional therapy. This fun and colorful Rom-Com Movie Guide can help people find the perfect film to match their mood, to put them in a different mood, bring up things they find hard to talk about, start conversations that can clear up misunderstandings, and just generally improve their romantic well-being.

NewFilmmakers LA (NFMLA) WOMEN’S HISTORY MONTH FILM FESTIVAL
In honor of Women’s History Month, NFMLA presents another installment of its InFocus series, InFocus: Female Directors. The first film program of the evening presents brilliant meditations on lost love, regret, happiness and the underlying, relentless force of time. These talented female directors give us stories depicting everything from loss of innocence tales to dark comedies about psychotic soccer moms.
Their second film program also centers on female directors. This block of shorts features a powerful documentary that accentuates important social and domestic issues without pulling any punches, an earnest comedy about what it’s like to be eclipsed professionally by a best friend, a drama that wittingly spotlights the age when one must choose between their parents’ expectations and their own personal dreams, and so much more.
Closing out the evening is a third shorts program featuring riveting character-driven dramas from Switzerland, Belgium, and the USA, which are all dynamic as well as visually stunning.
Throughout the night, you will have the opportunity to mingle with the filmmakers, industry supporters and film lovers over cocktails and beats at the filmmakers’ lounge adjacent to the private entry of the South Park Center’s 500 seat theater in Downtown Los Angeles.
Tickets are only $5 for single film programs and $15 for all films with OPEN BAR!

“RODNEY KING” PLAY AT THE BOOTLEG THEATER
Roger Guenveur Smith brings his solo RODNEY KING to the Bootleg stage, where it was developed before winning international acclaim. Smith will present three final live performances of KING before the April premiere of his greatly anticipated Netflix adaptation.
Smith’s performance is inspired by the life and times of the late Rodney King, whose savage beating by the LAPD sparked the riots/rebellion/uprising/insurrection of 1992.
25 years later, King’s saga still resonates in a performance which the New York Times called “sinuous, complicated, deeply moving.”
Since 1990 award-winning actor, writer and director Roger Guenveur Smith has been developing and performing critically acclaimed solo theater pieces on historical African American figures. Smith previously adapted his Obie Award-winning solo performance of A Huey P. Newton Story into a Peabody Award-winning telefilm. Smith’s Huey and his Watts Towers Project were both recorded by LATW, as was Radio Mambo: Culture Clash Invades Miami, directed by Smith. Recent directorial credits include both the West Coast and Los Angeles premieres of The Mountaintop, and Steven Berkoff’s Agamemnon, which he performed with LATW for the Olympic Arts Festival. His history-infused work for the stage also includes the acclaimed Rodney King, Juan and John, Iceland, In Honor of Jean-Michel Basquiat, Christopher Columbus 1992, Who Killed Bob Marley?, Patriot Act, The End of Black History Month, Two Fires and, with Mark Broyard, Inside the Creole Mafia, cited by the LA Weekly as Production of the Year for both its premiere and revival runs. Smith’s many screen credits include Do the Right Thing, for which he created the stuttering hero Smiley, and the acclaimed Dope and Chi-Raq. Smith also starred in the HBO series K Street and Oz. He has acted in over 80 films including School Daze, Do the Right Thing, King of New York, Deep Cover, Malcolm X, Eve’s Bayou, Hamlet, All About the Benjamins and Poetic Justice. Smith has taught at Occidental, Yale and Cal Arts, where he directs his Performing History Workshop.
